1. Recommendations for managing time include:
Revising for 25 minutes each subject; prioritising onerous tasks over easy ones; eliminating time consuming distractions such as parties and television; use of a study planner; working at those times that are best for ‘thinking times’; organising equipment ahead of time; micro breaks (including treats and incentives); dealing with the most important information first; dividing the year’s work into manageable topics.
2. Recommendations for creating a sound study environment include:
A designated study area; background ‘alpha wave’ music ie Vivaldi, Bach, Handel not modern ‘beta wave’ music; wall displays; bedtime revision; preparation of equipment; low lighting; water; brain food; exercise; variety; colour; talk – explaining to friends and family; revision guides; organising notes.
3. Revision techniques include: practising old exam papers; rote learning; wall displays; reviewing class notes; flash cards; mnemonics and mind maps.
4. Exam techniques include: balancing stress; maintaining confidence; comfortable dress; life skills before and during an exam.
